Prime and paint the walls using a water resistant paint
If using a stencil, use a permanent marker, paint pen, or paint and roller to paint the tile pattern.

To make a classic subway tile, draw horizontal lines, spaced equally apart.

Draw tile lines on every other row, spaced equally apart.

Draw alternating tiles on the other rows, staggered halfway between the other "tiles".
